Here are some of the money issues couples face in a
relationship: not making enough; excessive spending, a lack of
financial education, or a plan to disburse their income.
My husband and I
did not discuss finances before we got
married. We were
in love. We thought our being in love would cause
everything else to fall in place. Most couples do not want to face
their financial reality before marriage. They are in too big of a hurry
to seal the marriage so they can go on living out their romantic
activities, or fantasies.
Why Do Couples
Fight About Money? They enter into a
relationship without a plan. Each perhaps looking for the other to help
with the expenses. Women accept men into their lives and
don’t
expect them to take care of them.
The feminist
influence has forced men to slack in their
roles, thus entering into marriage expecting their wives to share
equally in the financial support of the family. I believe a man should
be able to handle the basic living expenses of the family and together
they can share any other expenses agreed upon.
Most men are
confused about what women want and that
flows over into the handling of the couple’s money, and
without a
money plan the commitment to love and oneness is blotted out by the
stress of debt and ultimately separation or divorce.
Discuss the
expenses you will incur together: housing,
utilities, insurance, groceries, clothes, personal care, etc. Then look
at what each of you have in outstanding debt. Order a credit check to
share where you stand individually.
In order to avoid
money problems in a relationship there
should be disclosure on both parties part. If you think that is too
personal, then this may not be the one for you. When two people decide
to take a life partner there should be no secrets. Secrets destroy a
relationship.
A
marriage where couples ignore financial
management, leaving it to chance, will soon be dissolved.
God’s
plan was and still is that man makes provision for his woman, who is
bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. A man who knows what he was
created, and his role, to be will get and keep the respect and love of
his wife.
