Wedding Vows
Love is in the air. The wedding plans are in motion, the
date is set;
the location is sealed, every detail leading up to that date is
completed, including the writing of the vows. There is anticipation of
the big day. And then it’s over.
The excitement of
that day fades into just pictures as
daily routines come and go, and living together becomes familiar. What
began as such a magical moment has loss its spark. So how do you get
that flame flickering as it was on your wedding day?
Amos and Barbara
Kennedy have been married 25 years.
They decided to keep doing what they did to win each others heart 25
years ago, and that is, to keep the courtship alive. Every Thursday
they go on a date. One week Amos plans it and the next week Barbara
makes a suggestion.
According to Amos,
“Every couple of months as a
part of our date Thursday, we re-read our vows to each
other.”
Barbara says,
“It is a precious moment. It feels
like my big day all over again.” Your marriage does not have
to
lose its savor but it requires effort to keep the fires burning.
Joining yourself together as husband and wife, is just the beginning.
Find ways to keep lighting the fire of your love. You are not permitted
to take each other for granted. You have permission to dress up for
each other, cook special dinners, buy little gifts and place them
around the house.
Isn’t that what you did to attract each other before the Big
Ceremony? Marriage becomes what the two of you decide it is going to
be. Look for things to do together to have fun. Why not rent a limo,
dress up, pick up a few friends for a ride to the beach. Getting older
together is does not have to be boring. Look around. There are still
older couples holding hands, touching each other, caring for each
other, and you can too.
